Next annual ACME meeting at University of Southampton

ACME's next annual meeting will take place at the University of Southampton, 29-31 March 2010

Professor O.C. Zienkiewicz 1921-2009:

Dear Colleague, I have recently learned about the sad news of the death of Prof. O.C. Zienkiewicz on Friday the 2nd at 17.00. Olek was very close to many of us, especially in the old Civil Engineering Department.
He was a figure of outstanding worldwide prestige and recognition who made a huge contribution in the area of computational mechanics and in particular finite elements. The continued success of Civil Engineering at Swansea owes much to his long standing leadership from the late 60's to the late 80's. Many of us currently in the School were once his PhD students and were tremendously inspired by his original ideas and imagination. We were also touched by his constant kindness and friendship over the years. Our thoughts are with the family, Helen, his children and grandchildren.
